Nursing degree update
In March, the Arizona State Board of Nursing gave provisional approval to EVIT being able to offer an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree. There are more steps to be taken, but approval from the state nursing board is a crucial step. EVIT began offering an associate degree in Surgical Technology in January.
Mesa’s Best Public School
Once again, readers of the East Valley Tribune have voted EVIT the Best Public School/District in Mesa! They also voted EVIT Network Security Instructor Bill Olney as Mesa’s Best High School Teacher, and EVIT placed second as Best Place to Work. Engineering & welding awards
A team of four students in the Power Campus Future Engineers program – Austin Larsen, Logan Dempster, Arthur Adecer and Victor Oundjian – received $8,000 in scholarship funds ($2,000 for each student) in the ASU LEAPS: Military Infrastructure Resiliency Design competition to attend the educational institution of their choice. The students used critical thinking skills and creativity to assess, plan and develop solutions in the event of an emergency for a fictional island naval base. And, Brandson Barriga, a junior in the Power Campus Welding program, placed first at the Pinal County Fair in Ag Mechanics for a fabricated and welded table and chairs. Congrats to students & teachers in both programs!
National Technical Honor Society
EVIT recently inducted 181 students – 109 at the Main Campus and 72 at the Power Campus -- into the National Technical Honor Society. NTHS is the honor society for career and technical education. Honorees have a minimum 3.0 GPA, at least 15 hours of community service, teacher recommendations and five or fewer absences and tardies. Special thanks to alumni speakers Ellie Willard (Radio/Audio Production, 2020) and Kai-se Toledo (Medical Assistant, 2018) for sharing their post-EVIT success stories with this year’s inductees.
