December 2022 - Superintendent's Update

EVIT Superintendent Update

New EVIT calendar
The East Valley Institute of Technology is moving to operate on a modified year-round calendar to better match the majority of our school districts. The EVIT Governing Board approved the 2023-24 calendar at Monday’s meeting. The 2023- 24 school year will start on July 24, 2023 and end on May 22, 2024, with fall break from Oct. 2-16, winter break from Dec. 18 through Jan. 2, and spring break March 11-22. The modified year-round calendar does not apply to EVIT’s adult-only programs, which operate on a separate calendar.

Season for giving
EVIT students are busy doing their part this holiday season to help those who are less fortunate. Computer technology programs have a holiday gift tree with tags containing the wishes from needy children and families; EVIT students and staff can take a tag to purchase a gift. The Early Childhood Education program is conducting a toy drive through Dec. 8 for children in the Head Start program. Dental Assistant students are collecting dental supplies for the homeless in our community. The 3D Animation program is conducting an art supplies drive for the Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona. And, the EVIT Student Council is gathering canned food for those in need through Dec. 12. Great job, EVIT students!

Collision grant
Congratulations to instructor Carlos Lopez and EVIT’s Collision Repair program for being awarded a $10,000 grant in the Collision Repair Education Foundation’s 2022 Benchmark Grants program. This program helps provide collision education programs nationwide with materials and support to enhance training and ensure it meets industry standards.

Hair shows
It’s that time of year again when students in one of EVIT’s most creative programs – Cosmetology – show off their skills through elaborate hairstyles, costumes and displays. The Masquerade Hair Show at the Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa, is 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, and will feature a carnival theme. The Power Annual Fantasy Hair Show will feature “a night of imagination” from 4-6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9 at the Power Campus, 6625 S. Power Road, Mesa. Tickets at each show are $5 (cash only) per person with children 5 and younger free.
