Favorite trade school
EVIT is the East Valley’s Favorite Technical & Trade School, according to readers of newspapers published by Independent Newsmedia. Over 50,000 votes were cast in the 2023 Valley Favorites contest. In the Technical & Trade School category, EVIT placed first, with Central Arizona College in second place and Central Valley Institute of Technology in third.

Education excellence
EVIT will be recognized at Tuesday’s House Education Committee meeting for Excellence in Arizona Education. Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson will give an update on HopeTech, our new residential center for foster youth that opens this summer. Thank you to House Chair Rep. Beverly Pingerelli for this special recognition.

Beam signing for HopeTech
Gov. Katie Hobbs will be the featured speaker 9 a.m. Feb. 9 at EVIT’s Beam Signing Ceremony for HopeTech, new apartment-style housing for youth transitioning out of foster care. Construction is well under way at HopeTech, which will open in July with a pilot group of 16 students who are aging out of foster care or have just left the state system. Eventually, the center will house 64 students. At HopeTech, they will have a safe place to live while they complete their high school education, learn a trade in one of EVIT’s 50 career training programs, and receive support services. The state allocated $10 million to EVIT in 2022 to construct a foster youth residential center to better prepare these vulnerable students for life on their own as independent adults.

Top CTE video
Students in EVIT’s Video Production program, taught by Paul Hoeprich, have won first place and a $500 cash prize in a video public service contest hosted by ACTEAZ for CTE Month. The video by Savannah Glenn, Aidan DeRoock, Tatum Franz, Riley Linch and Hailey Housman will be publicized on media outlets and shown at the 2024 Arizona CTE Summer Conference.
