January 2024 - Superintendent's Update
Jan. 11, 2024
EVIT Expo
Our annual open house event, EVIT Expo, is coming up from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 27 at the Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. This free event includes trolley tours of the 65-acre campus, program exhibits and demonstrations, activities for kids, food trucks and more. We will be joined this year by Kaitlin Harrier, founding executive director of NavigatEd AZ, a new state organization that provides free guidance to parents in how to navigate all of the education pathways available for their children. Learn more about NavigatEd AZ at https://navigatedaz.org.
First associate degree under way
EVIT’s associate degree program in Surgical Technology started this month at the Main Campus with 20 students in our first cohort. In 2022, EVIT led efforts to change state law so that Career Technical Education Districts could offer associate degree programs in high-demand fields. This will allow the CTEDs to evolve to meet changing workforce needs and improve Arizona’s education attainment levels. Associate degrees in nursing and industrial trades management are in development.
Enrollment for 2024-25
We started accepting applications for our 2024-25 career training programs on Nov. 1, and we already have 1,000 more applications than this time a year ago! Some programs are filling up quickly. So we urge our high school counselors to make sure their students are sending in applications now to ensure they get the program they want. Applications can be submitted at www.evit.edu/enroll.
