October 2022 - Superintendent's Update

EVIT Superintendent Update

Award-winning broadcasters
Alumni and students in EVIT’s Radio/Audio Production program won two first-place national awards and four second-place finishes in this year’s John Drury High School Radio Awards. Finn Taylor, a Class of 2022 alum, won first place for Best Sportscast and second place in the Best Featured News category. EVIT senior Wes Bowers won first place for Best Public Service Announcement, and senior Rebecca Freeman placed second in the same category. Class of 2022 alum Chloe Fooshee placed second in the Best Public Affairs Show category for her show that paid tribute to late Radio/Audio Production instructor Scott Ragotskie, who passed away in March from cancer. EVIT’s radio station, 88.7FM The Pulse (KVIT), placed second for Best Use of Social Media. The national awards are presented by North Central College in Naperville, Ill., and WONC-FM in honor of ABC Chicago news anchor John Drury.

NYC fashion trip
Seven students in EVIT’s Fashion Design & Merchandising program and two chaperones spent fall break in New York touring design schools and fabric stores in the New York Garment District, and connecting with fashion industry professionals. Design schools visited included LIM College, Parsons School of Design and the Pratt Institute.

Foundation breakfast
The 16th annual EVIT Foundation Gourmet Breakfast fundraiser will be 7 to 9 a.m., Nov. 9 in the Culinary Banquet Hall at the EVIT Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. The EVIT Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides scholarships to EVIT students who need assistance in paying program fees. The gourmet breakfast is prepared and served by EVIT’s Culinary Arts students. To purchase tickets or sponsorships, visit https://evitfoundation.org.

Earn while you learn
Like most American college students, EVIT alum Faith Dille is working while going to school. But thanks to the training she received in EVIT’s Early Childhood Education program, Faith’s employment is in her field of study. She is one of many alumni who have used their EVIT training to land a job that will give them valuable experience while in college and a way to help pay for school.
