September 2024 - Superintendent's Update
September 2024
Governor visit
Gov. Katie Hobbs was the featured speaker at a pre-launch event Sept. 4 for The STEM Academy at EVIT, a new kind of STEM training developed with tech leaders Boeing, Honeywell and Intel to prepare high school and adult students for immediate employment. Rather than focusing only on college-bound students as many STEM programs do, the EVIT academy will prepare all students for great jobs in science, technology, engineering and math that don't require a college degree, while also preparing those planning to attend college with real-life, hands-on learning to better prepare them for college. Initial career tracks will include aviation, manufacturing and engineering, with more to be added later. The academy begins enrolling Nov. 1 with plans to open in July 2025.
$150,000 for HopeTech
Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved $150,000 to help EVIT furnish HopeTech, our new residential center on the EVIT Main Campus for students who are aging out of the state foster care system. The funds will also be used to purchase transportation items to allow for ease of accessing the 65-acre campus and transporting HopeTech students to appointments and trainings, and recreational courts and equipment to provide youth with opportunities for physical activities. Thank you, Maricopa County!
Enrollment tops 7,000
Over 7,300 high school and adult students are currently enrolled at EVIT, with postsecondary enrollment continuing throughout the year. We appreciate the trust our students and families have placed in EVIT to provide them with training and education for a great career.
Foundation breakfast
The EVIT Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit providing scholarships to EVIT students, will host its annual breakfast fundraiser 7 to 9:30 a.m., Nov. 13 at the Culinary Banquet Hall at the EVIT Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. The breakfast will be prepared and served by Culinary Arts students. For more information about tickets and sponsorship opportunities, visit this link: https://bit.ly/3XnVUWs. The foundation provided scholarships to approximately 1,200 EVIT students for this school year.
Thank you for your support in helping EVIT change lives.
