April 2026 - Superintendent's Update

April 2, 2026
IGA Update
The dispute between EVIT and nine East Valley school districts over intergovernmental agreement (IGA) negotiations is still not resolved. A bill that would clarify the Career Technical Education District (CTED) statute is continuing to work its way through the Arizona Legislature, with Rep. Matt Gress leading efforts to listen to all points of view and come up with a solution. The lawsuit filed by the districts against EVIT remains in court, with an oral arguments hearing ordered by the judge for April 21. EVIT will keep its stakeholders updated on any new developments.
Best of Mesa
Once again, readers of the East Valley Tribune have voted EVIT the Best Public School/District in Mesa. They also selected Graphic Design instructor Eric Perez as Best High School Teacher, Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson as Best Education Leader and EVIT’s Bernese Mountain Dog, Ofi, as Best Mascot.
AAS Graduation
EVIT will celebrate the achievements of our Associate of Applied Science degree students during the AAS Commencement April 30. This will be the first class of EVIT students to earn their associate degree in Nursing and the second class to earn an associate degree in Surgical Technology. Congratulations, Class of 2026!
Adults: Time to Enroll
The next start dates for EVIT’s adult programs are May 4, July 27, Aug. 25 and Aug. 31. Options include associate degrees in nursing and surgical technology, paid apprenticeships in the industrial trades, and certificate programs in cosmetology, sterile processing and more. EVIT’s adult career training programs are focused on shorter pathways into the workforce and hands-on training that leads directly to in-demand jobs. READ: EVIT Programs Start Soon
Support for EVIT Students
The EVIT Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is committed to ensuring that financial need will not prevent high school students from attending EVIT. Every year, the foundation provides scholarships to low-income students who need assistance in paying program fees. Those who would like to help may make a donation through the foundation’s website -- https://evitfoundation.org/ -- or via Arizona’s Qualifying Charitable Tax Credit.
Thank you for your support in helping EVIT change lives.
