IGA Update
As shared previously, EVIT has been navigating significant challenges in negotiating our intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with our partner school districts. On Monday, nine districts (Apache Junction, Cave Creek, Chandler, Fountain Hills, Gilbert, Higley, J.O. Combs, Queen Creek and Tempe) filed a lawsuit against EVIT. Despite the narrative being presented publicly, this situation is not about EVIT prioritizing finances over students. Our focus has been, and will remain, ensuring that every student in the EVIT Career Technical Education District (CTED) has access to high-quality, rigorous career and technical education, whether they take classes on an EVIT campus or at their high school. We are committed to protecting the integrity of CTE so it continues to be a meaningful pathway and not reduced to a general elective.

Spotlight: Electrical Program Makes a Difference
One of the fastest growing programs at EVIT is Electrical Power & Transmission, which now includes a paid apprenticeship that students can advance into after completing their program. The Arizona Republic recently featured the program in an article about apprenticeships: Arizona program points to solution. KTAR Radio Host Mike Broomhead followed up on that story by recognizing EVIT Electrical instructor Tyler Dama as an influential teacher who inspires students. He also recognized EVIT’s Culinary Arts and Welding programs.

Two Schools, One Great Education
Students who attend EVIT’s central campuses enjoy the best of both worlds: Classes at their high school and advanced career training at EVIT. In this new video, they share what it’s like to attend two schools at the same time: High school + EVIT = Your future, your way

Scotty’s Story
At EVIT, Ciaran “Scotty” Kelly Perez, 18, of Gilbert, combined three options – Adult Education, Welding and a Paid Registered Apprenticeship – to earn his GED, learn a trade and get a job that is helping fund his pursuit of a career in music: Metal & Music – An EVIT Welding Student’s Journey.
