January 2026 - Superintendent's Update

Jan. 6, 2026
IGA Update
As we informed our stakeholders in December, nine school districts in the EVIT Career Technical Education District (CTED) filed a lawsuit against EVIT over our proposed intergovernmental agreement (IGA). On Dec. 19, EVIT filed its Response: Defendant’s Answer to Plaintiffs Complaint and Counterclaim. Also in December, EVIT Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson issued a series of videos explaining EVIT’s position and correcting misinformation generated by the suing districts. VIEW: Hear EVIT’s Side. EVIT remains committed to requiring all programs in the CTED to provide students with high quality career and technical education. We will continue to update our stakeholders as this lawsuit works its way through the court system.
Parents Support EVIT
Over 93% of EVIT parents would recommend EVIT to other families, according to a new marketing survey. One parent noted: “EVIT has changed my son’s view of education – super smart kid but bored to death in regular school. EVIT challenges him in ways we never expected … We are so happy he made this choice!” Thank you, EVIT parents!
Save the Date: EVIT Expo
EVIT will host its annual Expo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., Mesa. All EVIT instructors, including those from Main and Power campuses and the Coronado Fire Science Academy, will be available to answer questions. This is a great opportunity for East Valley families and Phoenix-area adults to explore their career training options. New this year: Seminars where students can take a career interest inventory and review their results with a counselor. READ: Expo Showcases Career Training.
Helping Those in Need
Parents of Head Start preschoolers received the joy of being able to provide their children with holiday gifts, thanks to the annual toy drive conducted by EVIT’s Early Childhood Education program. This project held special meaning for EVIT student Isabella Bascon-Castillo, a senior at Arcadia High School, and was featured in the Scottsdale Progress. READ: A Scottsdale Toy Story.
EVIT at Barrett-Jackson
EVIT has been invited to present at this year’s Barrett-Jackson STEM Fest Career Fair at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 17 in Scottsdale. Student-led activities will be part of the exhibits showcasing several EVIT programs. About 45,000 people are expected to attend.
Thank you for your support in helping EVIT change lives.
