The U.S. Department of Labor announced in July 2024 that the East Valley Institute of Technology has been awarded a $6 million grant to offer registered apprenticeships in in-demand fields. EVIT will create a hub for apprenticeships across Arizona for high school and adult students.
EVIT will offer apprenticeships in Electrical and Power Transmission, HVAC, Plumbing and Structural Metal Fabricator and Fitter (Welding), with the intent of adding at least two additional apprenticeships by the end of the 4-year grant. EVIT high school programs and adult certificate programs will serve as pre-apprenticeships for the registered apprenticeships and will allow students to earn credit, upon completion of a program, towards the required apprenticeship hours.
