Program Details: Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician program prepares individuals to prepare medications, provide medications and assistance to patients, and manage pharmacy clinical and business operations. The program includes instruction in medical and pharmaceutical terminology, principles of pharmacology and pharmaceutics, drug identification, pharmacy laboratory procedures, prescription interpretation, patient communication and education, safety procedures,  recordkeeping, measurement and testing techniques, pharmacy business operations, prescription preparation, logistics and dispensing operations, and applicable standards and regulations.
 
License or Certification Information: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) available through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 60 days of completing this program and graduating high school to be able to apply and take the certification test. Students must be 18 years of age and able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card to be licensed in the state of Arizona. For more information on the PTCB, visit www.ptcb.org.   • Pharmacy Technician I - 1 semester - 1.5 credits
  • Pharmacy Technician II - 1 semester - 1.5 credits
Pre/Co Requisites:
  • 6 high school credits (required)
  • 2.0 GPA (recommended)
Length of Program: 2 semesters
 
College Credit: College credit may be available
 
Technology Requirements: Computer access with Windows OS, Adobe Reader, webcam, microphone and anti-virus protection.
